“ There’s a difference between being followed and being known. Text can keep you visible, but a live event is where people finally meet you. They hear your voice, they catch your energy, they feel the pause between your words. And suddenly, the relationship stops being content… and becomes connection.”
Dear Beloved Reader,
Last year, I walked into a room full of women founders and almost turned around.
Everyone seemed established. The kind of women who “belonged” there.
I stood near the drinks table pretending to check my phone.
I thought I needed more confidence but what i needed is a better strategy.
Because here’s what I’ve learned about networking as a woman building something real:
It’s not about being the most charismatic person in the room.
It’s about being the most intentional.
That night, instead of trying to impress anyone, I changed one thing.
I stopped asking, “How do I make them like me?”
And started asking, “Who in this room moves in the direction I want to move?”
Then,
Instead of floating, I targeted.
Instead of collecting business cards, I built two real conversations.
Instead of pitching, I asked:
“What are you building this year?”
“Where are you stuck right now?”
“What kind of clients are you looking for?”
One of those women later introduced me to someone who became a paying client.
Not because I sold, but because I listened.
Because I followed up the next morning.
Because I sent a specific message referencing what she said, not a generic “so nice to meet you.”
Here’s what we can fix in networking:
Attending too many rooms and speaking to too many people and follow up with almost no one.
Depth beats volume.
If you’re building seriously, here’s a sharper approach:
Before your next event, decide:
The type of woman you want in your circle (stage, industry, mindset).
The one sentence you want to be known for.
The one question you will ask everyone.
During the event:
Have 3 meaningful conversations.
Leave before you’re drained.
Exchange details intentionally.
Within 24 hours:
Send a voice note or short message.
Reference something specific.
Offer something small but useful (an intro, a link, a thought).
Networking is not a numbers game.
It is a positioning game.
And here’s the part most women underestimate:
Your proximity determines your ceiling.
If you keep networking laterally, you’ll grow slowly.
If you start networking slightly upward, with women who stretch you, your standards shift.
This is what I’m exploring right now for Womenpreneur:
How to build strategic relationships that compound over time, not just social connections.
Tell me honestly:
What feels hardest for you in networking?
Walking into the room?
Starting the conversation?
Following up?
Turning connection into collaboration?
Reply and tell me. I’m building something around this, and I want it to solve the real friction, not the Instagram version.
Because you don’t need more events.
You need better rooms.
With magic and wisdom,
thGuardian of the Enchanted
